I, personally, being a Pokemon fan, would kill Abra. Just get rid of this damned psychic Pokemon. It's rather unfair. I can't wait to see how many people want to kill little Pikachu...or Jigglypuff...actually, I'd be happy to see Psyduck get it, just once.

Tostito, I can see how you might think it's a cute cartoon and I suppose it could be in most eyes. I just think whenever I see that show is how much money that company in Japan is making off of American kids. They worked hard for that 6 dollars and now they are going to buy cards which they use to gamble or "trade" with their peers. Oh well... maybe I'm just PMS-ing...

I am agreeing with Ashlyn & Sharp Darts here...the blatant commercialism of the show, as a marketing-driven storyline (a lot of other shows do it too, but it is the way this one has done it that bothers me), and the concept...

If anyone ever saw the whole South Park "take" on the whole thing *CHINPOKO-MON*...then you would see JUST how close to home (I feel) STONE & PARKER hit with with this episode!

It is a whole lot more than just an annoying cute critter hatred...hahaha...though that does not help either!!!

If you'd said you had a problem with the spoonfed commercialism I would have agreed in the first place. Instead you rabbited and wanked on about the cuteness. Cuteness definitely has a place.

Fact is, the creator of Pokemon was not in it for the money, it was a small Manga comic with the same plot it has now. The plot and show are not designed for commercialism, the commercialism is built up around an existing fun and cutesy medium.

Nintendo are fuckers for doing that, the cards and the merchandising crap. But some simple facts remain

* Being a Pokemon fan does not make one a victim of 'Poke-mania'

* The games created around the Pokemon plot are solid and well made, even difficult at some points.

* The Pokemon show is as good as any other anime series. If anime is something you like to watch then it is a good and fun show. You start attacking the show and you may as well be attacking the whole manga style, and that's not something I suggest you do.

I'd also like to state that I am not saying this to be either 'anti-sheep' or just plain contrary. I don't think such terms have any relevance in a mentally capable person. I happen to think most of what has been said so far in this thread is uneducated slandering.

Seeing as I have small cousin and my youngest brother is into Pokemon, I have had to sit through a few episodes of that show. And all I can say is that it is bad. Shoddy animation (even by Korean sweatshop standards), Stilted, inane dialogue that seems to be geared to a retarded three-year old, and sicky sweet, cutesy-poo imagery... I cannot think of a redeeming quality about Pokemon.

If it's your thing, more power to ya', but honestly, I cannot see the appeal.

IT's a show for kids, dingus! If you liked it there'd be something wrong with you. The plots are childish.
But if you've ever sat through an episode of sailor moon, you'd realise the animation in Pokemon is no worse than that. The animation isn't cheap and crappy, it's the style in which it is done. You can't judge it by western standards.

I hate cultural overlooks.

Exactly, different mediums and styles. Anime and Manga are not one set thing.

Meanwhile CW, it's not even slightly as 'simple as that'. I never got caught up in a thing, I personally don't see any of the advertisements or know first hand of the popularity. Only thing I've ever seen about Pokemon are two ads, one for the cards and one for the First Movie.

Just because a show is for kids, does not mean it has to speak to children like they are retarded. There are good, intelligent cartoons out there y'know, like Big Guy & Rusty the Boy Robot, Spider Man (comic makes good!), Power Puff Girls, and many others. So don't use the "it's for kids" defence.

In addition, I have seen many Manga films, as well as Anime in general. Comparatively, the animation for Pokemon sucks.

FJ there are different types of animation for anime. The bubble animation that is used in Sailor Moon or Pokémon or very detailed animation that is used in Beautiful Dreamer, Akira, Project A-KO, ect. The animation doesn't suck it's just a different one than the one you would be used to from watching anime.

I can't agree on that one, sorry Pez. Pokemon simply sucks. It's a really bad cartoon. Every time my friends make me watch the thing and i criticize it, they give me the same excuse "Oh, it's just a bad episode." News flash! Every episode is a bad episode!!

And i am definitely not dissing every manga and anime out there either. I love anime, and manga especially has some of the best anime i've ever seen. Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, and to some extent, ie. the idea behind it, Wicked City, to name a few.

The pokemon games aren't my thing either, but i can understand how some might like them. You're either the type that gets caught up in stuff like that, or not. It's as simple as that.

I personally don't think that much of Pokemon. It's a fine cartoon for kids, but I really don't see the need for all the commercialism surrounding the show.

I think most of the people in this thread don't like Pokemon because they want to be 'above' the sort of mentality that would enjoy it. But if being 'above' a thing involes closing your eyes, sticking your head in the sand and letting the bandwagon sweep you away, then hey! I'm a grade-A retard!
Anyone who hates pokemon passionately isn't doing so because they hate pokemon passionately. They say, "Goddamn! I'll be absolutely FUCKED if I'm going to fall in love with pokemon along with half the world! Time for individualism!" And so they join up with the other half of the world, the half that hates all seemingly-silly trends and spreads a contemptuous ignorance masked by adult thinking and individualism. And in doing so, they became worse than the pokemon fans, who were at least true to themselves to some degree.
Neutrality is not a crime, ladies and gentlemen! Ignorance is not a crime, unless the perpetrator is using it to feel transcendant of mankind. And I think that's what a lot of people who hate pokemon are doing.
Pokemon. Formulaic rubbish? It sure is! But so is everything else in this world, punks. Your lives are formulaic rubbish, or have you been too busy attending banquets with Zeus to notice?
I enjoy pokemon. I enjoy professional wrestling, for Christ's sake. But I think I enjoy them for different reasons and in different ways than the conventional frenzied fan. I probably don't. And thus, I become like the pokemon hater; trying to transcend base human nature (which even the 'best' of us are slaves to) by attempting individualism.

Well said. But i don't hate Pokemon. I don't hate anything really. I just don't see whats so good about it. To me it looks just like any other childrens show which, at one stage in my life, might have appealed to me, but now doesn't. When Yo-yo's came back and hit the world by storm, did you buy one? I know i didn't. It's a piece of string wrapped around a bit of plastic dammit! Whats so good about that? So when some poorly drawn cartoon hits the world by storm, why should it be any different? It simply doesn't interest me.
