actually... I heard it and was quiet dissapointed. Pinkerton was miles above this album. I think its due to the loss of the bass player to the rentals. I come to think that he was the true pop genius in the band. who knows. I might be an idiot.

Is that 'Weezer' by Weezer or their first album 'Weezer' by Weezer.

I'm confused.

Probably listened to Hash Pipe once too often.

Exile and the hash pipe, a story far too familiar...

I'm still waiting to grab a free copy, but I might break down soon. 'Hash Pipe' is such a damn fine song.

Hashpipe is a very good song...and all of the others are - in my opinion - just as good. The whole CD really gave me a Beatles vibe - big time. As I've been telling people, Weezer now sounds like what the Beatles would sound like if they were a new band right now.

Whatever you do, don't listen to mosrite! Maybe he's been hitting the hashpipe a little too often.

Don't get me wrong, the album is good. But it did grab like Pinkerton did. I was in love with Pinkerton from the first note.

Mosrite I disagree about the bassist thing. Pinkerton was more Rivers Cuomo than the first album or this one. I blame Ric O'casik. Overproduction is kill pop music.

Well then, I guess I'm the only person who thinks the new CD is their best. Yes, even better than Pinkerton. Which is also good. Just not as good. So there. Nya.

actually I think it was under produced. There was no production on the new album. Its all straight guitars and drums. nothing special like pinkerton where the drums were actually great sounding and there were lots of differnt guitar sounds, keyboards and actually catchy hooks.

I think the song writing slacked to... the lyrics and melodies were uninspired. It was a boring listen. I didn't even make it through the album the first time I tried.

I'm actually dissapointed in weezer. I was hoping for so much more. maybe thats the problem. I never expected them to fall into the rock and roll cliche. oh well.

The production of Pinkerton is raw less radio friendly. It is the mastering that gives Pinkerton the big sound. You said that your self. This new ablum is smoother(bare bones doesn't mean underproduced), regardless if it stright drums and guitar. It sounds more like the first album (even the song writing.) The Guy from the Cars produced the first album and the third. I blame him. Don't get me wrong I think the album is good, just not as impressive as Pinkerton. Thematicly it is not as srtong as Pinkerton. Did any one else know that Pinkerton follows the story of Mademe Butterfly?

edit to add: In Rivers Cuomo vs Matt Sharp, Rivers is the pop genuis.

Rivers Cuomo is still my Rock and Roll god. I think it becuase one of his legs is longer than the other.

I like the first album the best.

It reminds me of that hazy summer when I was ill and didn't leave the house for a month.

On the other hand...

A leate entry in the Weezer debate... finall got the album, and I have to say I like it alot. Especially "Photograph" and "Simple Pages". While I think the previous two are better, this is by no means a bad album. Just shows you how good a band Weezer is.

"You Gave Your Love To Me Softly" is still their best song ever.

I still don't understand why people didn't like Pinkerton. Rivers Cuomo seems to think it died a terrible death. But I love it! (for what that's worth!)
I really like the new album, but miss the old bassist (he did the high harmonies right? Didn't he leave because he wanted to be the frontman? I kinda like the rentals songs I've heard tho) This isn't the best one, but it's still damn good.
I think the fact they went back to a sound similar to the first album is because the band seem to have seen Pinkerton as a failure. That's a big shame because I LOVE that album.
I still listened to the new one over and over though.
They are on this weeks Kerrang, if anyone's interested, or can get a copy.
Weezer were going to play my home town, and I had tickets, but they had to shoot the video for the next (UK) single and they cancelled damn them!!
I wasn't sure about that Pinkerton/madam Butterfly thing, where'd you hear that?
