i'm happy

on thursday i got a letter from poetry.com saying that i was a semi finalist in their international competition and that i am now entering into the finals. yay! yay! i've entered the competition three times before and have never gotten farther than the semi finals so this is my first time this far and i'm very happy.

i posted the poem here before, the one called untitled (original enough huh?) so i'm all happy cause i liked it and i'm glad it's gotten this far.

untitled

Standing isolated and alone.
You dropped me and now I’m feeling the pain of the landing.
Today never happened, tomorrow will never come - I am stuck in my yesterday.
Re-running all the films in the back of my mind,
Watching as the flickering images of the past provoke a tear, as undesirable memories repeat themselves,
And good times make me laugh to myself in a pitiful deja vu;
A pathetic attempt to contain the cliché world in a glass jar.
It isn’t possible, I have decided.
Time keeps going, it does not let you sit down and remember
The knife keeps turning, it does not stop when the pain gets too much to bear
You must lower your estimations in people, they will never live up to the ones you hold now.
You must grit your teeth and greet the world with a smiley masquerade.
Grit your teeth, don’t cry, just pretend everything is fine like the rest of them.
Nothing is fine.

Green

You were the first and only
To hold me.
You were the first to desire me in my entity,
Despite my inadequacy.
And this alien emotion directed towards me startled me entirely.
You caught me unawares,
You caught me with my guard down so cupid’s arrow passed undetected
And I stand affected.
I did not know how to accept it,
So I allowed you to woo me.
I allowed love to take it’s shots at my vulnerability.

But love is such a misinterpreted word,
And unknowingly I misunderstood the contract.

I listened to her body language until it saturated my head.
I watched her advances
As if I were watching a firework display at Halloween,
Each decorative explosion high in the sky
Oblivious to it’s spectators.
Were you aware?
As I sit next to you, yet watching from afar
As not to disturb the natural habitat
While she does that.
She smiles, you laugh.
I cry.
Were you aware that every second’s attention towards her
Was taken from me?
I watch this sickening show of ‘innocent’ flirtation
To my irritation
And before you return to me
I die,
In green.

That, like, didn't rhyme. Interesting nonetheless. (Fireworks display at Hallowe'en? Must be an Irish thing.)

Was it, *ahem*, directed at anyone in particular?

I'm dressing up as manic for Hallowe'en. Here's my mask:

It's a good poem, manic. I just think that it makes it more challenging to try to rhyme and form coherent structure (e.g. pentameter), that's all. Who inspired you then?

Say, Laura, don't I know you from somewhere?

rockjock, i dont' write poems that rhyme because it doesn't come naturally for me. my poetry isn't work, it's a passtime purely a way to write down emotions and thoughts. if i gave that much of a shit about it, and if i were doing it for a living perhaps i'd go into 'haikus' and 'lambic pentameter'.

some of that second poem rhymes, as intended and for it to work it has to be read well, with the right rhythm. if i write a poem that rhymes it sounds too 'elementary' for me.
some writers like to write in rhyme, some don't. whatever their style. this is mine and i like it.

and get your own face

I don't like rhyming poems nearly as much.

They just turn out tacky.

Example: There's a really great line for a poem I'm writing, but I can't use it because it doesn't fit into my 'nursery rhyme' poem.
That there is just creative limitation.
A poem can still be coherent and have good structure without rhyming. It is a narrow minded person that will reject a poem or like it less purely because it doesn't rhyme.

I hate to say it, but I am fairly certain that is a joke from our resident spastic cunt. Although surprise surprise, it wasn't funny! You couldn't even tell it was a joke.

And if it wasn't a joke, then not only will Rockjock die while crossing the street one fateful evening, but I also just gave chumpy chump an excuse.

Shit, I didn't even see that. But the bright side is now I can join in the 'Only stupid people would hamper art in the slightest by wanting it to rhyme' Rockjock bashing.

It is rather fucked up if you are serious. You're such a complete drop kick piece of shit. Stick to ROCKS, you fucking unintelligible slobering ponce.

Well, well, yet another serious conversation interloped by a foaming-mouth antisocial. I suppose I should be thanking you for injecting your wit into a situation where no one asked for your pathetic opinion. Instead, I'll do this:

I can't tell you why I enjoy the structured vs. the free verse better. But if that's the way you want to write, fine by me.

All you can ever do in reply is vaguely repeat what I have said in some other thread. You have nothing worthwhile to say, nobody outside Zbuland and Lotusworld has anything good to say about you. The administrators dislike you. You are relatively unestablished. You command not the slightest sliver of respect from any other human beings. You are boring. And you are a spastic cunt.

Fuck you. Egocentric prick. Y'know, I've never liked you. But I've kept my mouth shut for a while, because others seemed to like you, God knows why. That's the kind of guy I am. But lately, you've been such a sad sack of arrogance, idiocy and all around bullshit, that I'm checking my consideration for others at the door.

So Rockjock (which is the absolute fruitiest sounding name ever), consider yourself to have garnered one more soul who hates your arrogant, sled-dog humping Canadian ass.

What do you think of a man who apologizes, Britt? Even when someone's being rude and you have no reason to apologize.
