Last night I flipped to Much (Canada's version of MTV) when I see the special "2 Much 4 Much." Never mind that this is a hypocritical title, because they go ahead and show the damn thing twice anyway. The video featured was Madonna's "What It's Like to be a Girl."

The entire video is nothing but insanity. First Madonna is getting herself dolled up and drives away in a car with the vanity plate "PUSSY" (the rear one says "CAT." Oh, I get it. Heh.) She then picks up an elderly woman (from the Ol Kuntz Rest Home, another hilarious joke slipped in) and brings her to the car.

The video goes along with Madonna committing unimaginable crimes. She pulls a 270 turn just to smash into a carful of guys next to whom she's stopped at a red light. She tasers a man at an ATM just to steal his money. She then goes to a drive-thru where she gives the fat waitress the money (oooh, score one for the sisters) and purposely scrapes a police cruiser as they stand idly by. She then throws it in reverse, flashes them a gun and pulls a roundful of...water. Squirt gun, cute. She then rams them in the rear as they drive after her.

Later she proceeds to run over a guy on a motorbike, young guys playing street hockey, and ram several parked cars. Yet she stops to properly dispose of the garbage she acquired from the restaurant. Later she pulls into a gas station where she escorts the old woman into some other guy's car, steals it, runs him over with it, and throws a lighter into a puddle of gasoline, blowing the place up. The final shot is of her wrapping the stolen car around a telephone pole in a brutal display.

This maddeningly awful display is meanwhile justified by the cognisceti gurus on Much's panel. A Women's Studies associate at the University of York lauded Madonna's "sense of empowerment." Others lamented that the video might offend them if they weren't so "jaded." Yes, makes me miss my sense of outrage too. Perhaps dullards like this made me lose it in the first place.

So that's it. I'm totally disgusted with Madonna, music, and just about anything else remotely connected.

RJ,

Madonna is a hack. This has only come to most of the public's attention because she used to have talent. Now, since soft pop has gone the way of the dodo (her "Like a Virgin" days..HA!), she's ripping off other genres and artists, trying vainly to prove that her glory days are FAR from over.

For her last two albums, she's ripped off Prodigy's style. Now, she's using Eminem.

Of course, this just makes her look even more like an outdated bitch. Maybe she should just stick to her own music and stop looking like a woman whose's only asset is her looks and her agent's wily ways.

A quote by my favorite comedian, Gallagher, comes to mind concerning Madonna:

quote:
Because she's like a virgin. Like when? First time I saw her dance, I knew she was screwed like an apoplectic rabbit with the hiccups!

Jeez, what part of "give up" does she not understand?! She's just a saggy, cheap, good-for-nothing rip-off who should have realized her career was dead when she swore like a sailor on Letterman all those years ago.

Yes, Gypsy, consider this the rant section for Madonna. Air your dirty laundry here.

What I'm more enraged at is the complete acceptance of this type of video. They were interviewing these average people to gauge the public, and their attitude was a "been there, done that" kind of thing. One woman said it was no different from Mystikal's "Shake Ya Ass." Now I'm not big on Mystikal either, but he isn't running over the women with cars. That this fool can't see that is bad news.

Madonna is a bitch, a slut, a whore, anything else nasty you can think of.

I like it how various groups are completely fucking over their points of view when they approve of violence and murder to other groups yet start bellyaching when members of their own group suffer the same fate.

And I like Eminem because those uppity bitches and tar-babies need a smackdown. Now that we're all safely justifing our hatred, how about we start executing all the retards and others who don't start up to the standards of the human race?

Enpowerment doesn't mean bashing in heads or running over people or making stupid videos about killing people. Enpowerment has been about doing your best in the world despite the obstructions in your way. Whomever doesn't realize that is just using their race/age/etc to bash down everyone else and making themselves look like the very ideal that their oppressors use to hold them down.

Choose your poison.

Wait, I take issue with this garbage about "freedom of expression." Madonna is the epitome of every narcissistic megalomaniac out there who think that beig able to say anything they want means they have poetic license to spew out hateful, degrading garbage. The only thing more dehumanizing than her is her drolling fans who fawn on her for "telling it like it is." Honesty is not a virtue in of itself.

Christ, expect more from these people. And yourself.

I agree, RJ. It's the old KKK right to speech issue, claiming they can speak their mind when they really deal out their own biased and unfair view of the world which is more respective to how they view the world through their televisions instead of the real world.

And Madonna is doubly bad because not only is she spreading this hatred, but she is doing it to boost her sagging career and to make money off of it! MONEY!! She's willing to make all of this 'enpowerment' (aka hatred) and take it to the bank! Un-fucking-real!!

Its just my opinion, I'm allowed to have an opinion aren't I?

Hmmm, maybe if Madonna was driving through a hospital parking lot running over all the little patients, we would be gasping to whistle a different tune, eh?

We were kinda picking on HyperSpazGrrrl more than you. Of course you're entitled to your opinion. It just sucks is all. I don't think it's her songs that infuriate anyone anymore, because they're just these tired dance songs repeating a single line. Take Music...were there any actual lyrics in that song? No. Case closed.

Hey I really wouldn't care if she was running over all the little patients cos its not real. I have seen far more offensive and disturbing videos.

My opinion does not suck and neither does yours. We just have a difference of opinion thats all.

I really like the 'Tell me' song that she did and so what if theres hardly any lyrics in 'Music', tell that to the band Mogwai who are purely instrumental.

I find Mariah Carey and Celine Dion far faaaaaaar more objectionable. Damn those whores. In fact the first thing I ever posted on WWYK was asking for them to be killed.

And as for Happyspazzygirl, if she isn't someone working under a pseudonym then she really must be a retard! Did I type that out loud?....Whoops!

We're weren't really wailing on ya (even through it does sound like it), but rather the whole thing. But Madonna isn't anything to get really angry about since her music isn't that good anymore.

But seriously, no hard feelings?

That's what the wink was for, laz. I know Nick overdoes it with the winks, but mine are to show I'm kidding.

Of course there's probably more disturbing stuff out there than that video. I've seen a couple of Prodigy videos that by all rights should not have gone on the air. And that was my point, it's not her music that's offending anyone, it's her videos and public displays.

My other point is that maybe we should just take these things off the air, because they're just elevating the bar as to what will shock and horrify someone. I don't want to live in a world where every stupid kid thinks he's lost in The Matrix where people are just computer programs that bend to his/her will. The world needs a bit of sanctity.

And Zbu is correct...do not take us seriously. Even I don't.

I feel compelled to throw my 2 cents worth in here...

I like Madonna. Yeah, she's the narcissism poster child, but she's also gutsy. Really. Her latest video is simply a compilation of a hundred different videos made by men...however, somehow when a woman is portrayed doing the same types of things (granted, all in one three-four minute video) she gets slammed for it, and they won't air it more than once. Why is that?

All she's doing here is making a point. Next time you watch a video by such misogynistic assholes as Eminem or Snoop Dog, think about that. Most stations have no qualms about showing their woman-bashing shit over, and over, and over, and over...

You want me to rag on Eminem and Snoop Dogg too? Fine, they're fuckers. But there's no one defending it based on the concept of "satire". That she's doing it too is a perpetuation, not a response. So maybe Eminem has sung about killing his wife. I just haven't seen him doing it in his videos. Watch him in his videos? Simple answer is I don't.

This video isn't the same old same old--she's taken it to the next level. Gutsy would be doing something other than this depraved garbage, not jumping in the mud and pretending she's clean.

Well, we agree on something! I hate violence on television as well.

What burns me, however, is the fact that you're condemning Madonna for throwing the problem in our faces. By making such a ridiculously violent, male-bashing video, she's simply trying to point out how commonplace it has become - especially violence towards women. My sincere belief is that Madonna hates violence as much as the next person.

Evidence of your alleged misogyny stems (in this thread, at least) from your comment: "Madonna is a bitch, a slut, a whore, anything else nasty you can think of."

Should a woman, any woman, be called such horrible names simply because she does something she believes in?

I didn't get that message, as a man. What I got was that running over guys is okay because they're evil. It's a message that is foisted on us guys every single day, and I'm tired. Damned tired. I don't need some rich snob like Madonna rubbing my nose in it.

Couldn't she have done a video where a woman-beater gets dragged off to jail, or burns in hell? Sure, but she didn't. She's doing what everyone else is doing, and she's not a crusader for it.

Were the nasty names appropriate? Maybe not, but I have the right to disagree with any individual I see fit, especially when she's manufacturing what can only be described as evil. I still take some things seriously in this world, and I'm making a stand with her. That she happens to be a woman is beside the point. I called Eminem a bastard, too.

I'm also more well aware of subtle irony than you may think. There was none in this video. That you want to think the best of Madonna is commendable on your part, but I'm more skeptical.

My point:

If Madonna wanted to make a point, then she should have chosen a better fucking way then to brutally murder several people. She wasn't making a point, she was being an asshead.

And Britt, I hate to say this but if this is only a point that women can see, it's not really a good point. Good points are made when EVERYBODY can see what the artist is trying to say, even if it takes some interpretation. Interpret running over some innocent bystanders in a car, then killing yourself by ramming into a telephone pole? I believe in symbolism..trust me, I was nearly an English major. But I can't possibly see how this video was a statement as opposed to being something 'shocking' in the terms of Eninem and his jackassed lot.

Madonna is playing everyone for a fool for thinking she had a point. The only point she has is between her ears in the skull that maybe once held a brain. Plus, who the fuck says that a person who makes millions of dollars even have a valid point about what us lower-income people think? Life is different for her. If I acted like her, I would be slapped down so fucking hard my head would spin, penis or vagina or neither.

So, this arguing is silly. Madonna was not thinking about women or men when she made this video, she was thinking about how this could possibly get her ass an Oscar or more money so she can pop out another baby for more public sympathy or to sell more albums on her half-inflated stance and beliefs.

And since "Truth or Dare" showed her willing to do anything ANYTHING for a fucking dollar or fame, this isn't so hard to accept.

So, both of your arguments are truly academic, my friends. If she actually knew what was going on in this world or bothered to leave her security-gated world, she might have some crediability. Instead, it's more of the same shit from a bitch/bastard who gets their daily dose of reality from "Extra" and "Entertainment Tonight."

THAT'S the point. Thank you.
