Talk about desperate! I ran out of blood making that final signature. The only way you can get my blood now is if you eat the paperwork.

If he means blood donor, then yes I am.

I started giving blood in high school, then switched over to a similar procedure called pheresis about 2 years ago.

You're stuck with a needle, just like you're giving blood, but in pheresis, the blood is run through a machine, some of the plasma and the platelets are circulated out, and the remaining components are put in this solution to keep it from clotting and pumped back in your body.

There are some advantages to pheresis - one pheresis donation equals 2 whole blood donations, it would take 4 pheresis donations to reach a gallon (do the math), and you can do it again in 2 weeks (as opposed to 2 months when you do whole blood). However, it's not a walk-in sort of thing.

It's because of pheresis that I reached 10 gallons in June - meaning next year, around March or April, I will be attending a banquet where I will get a plaque and a name plate on the board at the blood bank.
