ste2001 Monkey	posted 07-31-2001 11:51 AM washie, if you built a cpu you can answer this question for me. im getting a cpu for x-mas and i cant decide if i want an athalon or a p4. i want to be able to upgrade it and i heard that the p4 will be easier to upgrade and can go faster in the long run. but then i also heard that the athalon processors are just better overall. i also am going to upgrade the ram and there is a significant price difference. what is the best bang for my buck? correct me if i stated anything wrong.

Carwash Monkey	posted 07-31-2001 06:24 PM hehehe, i didnt build a cpu..... that would be near impossible for me to do... so fiddely and tiny. i built the pc... meaning put it together. As for P4 v AMD.. personnally im goin for the AMD over the P4 when i next upgrade. U can get a faster athlon for the same price of a lower speed p4. In tests that i've read the AMd's have performed better and run faster. As long as ur motherboard allows it.. u can upgrade the CPU np. IF u go for an AMD u need a 300w PSU (power supply unit) in the case. P4's can do with 250w (i think it is) so for CPUs .. go for AMD. as for RAM.. that all depends on ur motherboard and wot it supports. in the UK u can get 256Mb PC-133 RAM for like �30 / �40 . which is good and cheap, u dont really neeed more than 256Mb... altho i have 384Mb If u dont know wot to do or wot ur on about (no offence ment by that) then take someone with u when u goto buy it.. and / or goto a respectable place and ask there advice. im happy to answer any more q's.. and hopefully wot i've said helps and u understand
