During the aftermath of Return of the Jedi, Star Wars fans the world over wanted more of their favorite heroes. And at the very same time, Marvel Comics was making strides in the comic market due to comic adaptations of blockbuster movies and weaving its way into the more adult-oriented comics such as 'The Punisher.' In a very rare (hence creative) mood, LucaArts and Marvel meshed the two into what was termed 'the first real adult-oriented comic book.'The Legend of Ewok Francis featured the title character, a horribly scarred Ewok warrior who after the destruction of his village by the Imperial Fleet, dedicated his whole life to destroy the remaining ragtag Imperials throughout the galaxy. Through a peaceful creature, Francis's encounters with his sworn enemies were often bloody and, in the premiere issue, showed him ripping the limbs off of a stormtrooper and shoving them up his own 'vent hole.'
Despite the LucaArts approval of the stark horrors of war mixed with lighthearted family entertainment, the public outcry was brief but effective. After five issues--the last three being released with faux Spider-Man covers that promised full-frontal Hobgoblin nudity--Ewok Francis vanished from the public eye and mind, appearing only once as a deleted scene in 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back' in the background, covered by a Daredevil Ultra Limited Edition action figure.
