I'm really on a cover kick lately, so here's another list. This time awful covers:

5. Brittany Spears - "Satisfaction" (Rolling Stones)
4. Screeching Weasel - "Linger" (The Cranberries)
3. Reel Big Fish - "Unity" (Operation Ivy)
2. Strung Out - "Every Breath You Take" (The Police)
1. Fear - "We've Got To Get Out Of This Place" (The Animals)

The "Sloop John B" cover by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes is actually pretty bad.

That song single-handedly brought on my disgust towards them.

That's my favorite cut on that album. Besides Wild World. How can one hate the Gimmies?!?!?

My favorite is Rainbow Connection from the previous album.

Only the Gimmes could make even a Kermit the Frog song rock.

I just find it really, really funny, that these are guys from successful groups - a punk rock supergroup, if you will - and all they do is covers of relatively cheesy songs.

I mean, if a gathering like this came from any other genre of music, you'd get boring pretentious crap, that critics would cream over, and fans would be indifferent to. You'd read countless interview consisting of each member saying what a genious every other member of the band is. But with the Gimmies, you get silliness and some pretty rockin' covers.

I always have felt that one of the strengths of pop punk bands are there cover when the choose the right covers. Don't get me worng there are plenty of band band punk rock covers of song. The Big Drill Car cover of 'Freedom of Choice.' It hurt, really bad.

Never been a better cover than Sid Vicious version of My Way.

I just need to know if Jonny had been drinking when he made that last post.

Can anyone actually understand it.

Oh heck, let me save you a little time:

ROCKET-SPEAK: "I always have felt that one of the strengths of pop punk bands are there cover when the choose the right covers. Don't get me worng there are plenty of band band punk rock covers of song. The Big Drill Car cover of 'Freedom of Choice.' It hurt, really bad."

TRANSLATION: "I have more knowledge of music in my little finger than you'll ever know...oh, and The Big Drill Car's cover of 'Freedom of Choice' SUCKED."

What can I say? I have the gift.

Okay, I'll awaken this thread again buy naming the worst cover of all time: Pearl Jam's career-killing "Last Dance" or something. What's next, some Ricky Nelson covers done in grunge??

Actually, a well done cover of "Lonesome Town" might not be a bad thing...

But Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss" was God awful.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Leonard Nimoy's version of Proud Mary, or the William Shatner Beatles-covers. Although they're so damned funny it could be argued they're examples of the best covers rather than the worst.
