Well, I've recently been enjoying Godhead's cover of 'Elanor Rigby', and while that may seem like blasphemy to some, it's rather good. So, since this place hasn't had a good "Top" list in a while, here's my list of Top 5 cover songs.5. cub - "She's Like A Rainbow" (Rolling Stones) 4. Sex Pistols - "Substitute" (The Who) 3. The Descendents - "Wendy" (The Beach Boys) 2. No Use For A Name - "Fairytale of New York" (The Pogues) 1. The Ramones - "California Sun" (I have no idea who did it originally, but it was written by a fella named Jim Lee. ) Honerable mention: Snapcase - "She" (The Misfits), The Suicide Machines - "I Don't Wanna Hear It" (Minor Threat), and NoFx - "Vincent" (Don McLean) You? Actually, the reason I hate covers is because my first exposure to them was Pearl Jam's "Last Dance" which killed their career and the Lemonheads' cover of Kiss's "Rock n Roll All Night" which was so slow I was wondering if the group was performing in a garage slowly with carbon monoxide.

I liked the Lemon Head's version of "Mrs. Robinson." Its a slow song to begin with, so it transferred well, I guess. I hate everything by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Except maybe the cover for "Danny's Song." Radiohead once did a sort-of cover for Oasis' "Wonderwall" on live radio. Back when Napster was alive, I was able to get that. Pretty funny. ...and why on God's good earth did Madonna do a cover for Mclean's "American Pie"? I actually watched that inane movie, The Next Best Thing and the only freaking song in the whole soundtrack was that one. Different cuts of it, which didn't even go with the movie. Not to mention the fact that the song itself chronicles a history of rock'n'roll, not gay rights. |

I'm holding in my tongue about Madonna's baffling actions, still thinking she's somehow relevant. Sure, she may have affected the way sexuality is played in pop culture to a certain extent but since she's now a mother twice over, her insane attempts to be current (jumping and falling off the techno bandwagon and that tasteless video which RJ covered nicely in Me-Land) just make her look like the fossil she is.Oh, shit, I did rant, didn't I? Sorry. |

How about Screeching Weasel's cover of "Jonny Are You Queer?" I also forgot to mention The Goops "Buttercup" from MallRats. There are so many kick ass covers out there. And mosrite, until recently, I could have said the same about cub, but I just recently got my copy of "Mauler" back from my sister after roughly 3 years. I don't think I've stopped listening to it. |

Whoa, FJ! Way to take me back to childhood with that reference to "Jonny Are You Queer"!! When I was a kid, I used to worship Josie Cotton. |

Josie Cotton! Thank you, Britt. For the life of me, I couldn't remember who did it originally. I know it's at the end of 'Valley Girl', but I couldn't think of it. I think that's why I like covers so much. New versions of songs you remember from childhood. |

You crazy mother fucker exile. I mean fine, you like Beck, so do I. But their version of Diamond Dogs is the flattest and poorest piece of music on the face of the planet, made even more sickening by how truly delightful the original was. |

MxPx - Saw her standing there and the KKK took my baby away.On both cases the originals are better, but I think they did a good job. |

Sorry, still on the covers kick. I just want to add that Screeching Weasel does the best cover of "You Are My Sunshine". Ever. And that Me First and The Gimmie Gimmies rule the free world. |

FJ, if you're liking covers so much look into getting a copy of Dandy Warhols 'Little drummer boy' if you don't have it already. |
