Inventor Dean Kamen demonstrates his Segway Human Transporter, a one-person, battery-powered scooter, Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in New York. The device, which travels at a top speed of about 12 mph, uses gyroscopes to keep it upright and discern where the rider wants to go.

It seems like it is cool, yet dorky to me.

I wonder if some people who buy them are going to be like uppity cyclists who indignantly ride on the road.

I can imagine allot of gyroscope removals in most hospitals, if they plan on putting that thing on the road.
What if the person driving it has schizophrenia?
I saw a reporter trying to do her monolog, and control that thing at the same time. She almost drove right into a crowd of people.
A woman. Schizophrenia. The same thing right?

Good use: Large business's with long hallways. The Pentagon for example.

Yeah, or what if they had no legs, they'd be pretty fucked then too.

Schizophrenia is pretty specific mucha cha, I don't get you sometimes. Or were you leading to the oh so quality joke about women and schizophrenia. Bring back puppet boy, at least he is crazy as a shtick.

Yea, that guy was in the newspaper yesterday. Who's the guy he's been compared to, the inventor, Thomas Edison or James Edison. Anyway, yea, he's the new him.

Did that make sense?

I'm just amazed that the briefcase he's got is able to keep its balance on such a precarious place.

From this, I come to the decision that it's witchcraft that is propelling his strange vehicle along, and I vote that he be hanged, burned, or crushed to slow death with stones. Who's with me?

Surely that's a little primative. If he is really using witchcraft, shouldn't we get him to make some more cool stuff? Like, for us?

It's almost cool until you realize that outside of a major metropolitan area it's useless.

But that is the point of the exercise Nick , while everyone else is stuck in the traffic he can scoot along the footpath to get where he wants to go in half the time one smart cookie on his way to his first million .

Yeah right!
Could you imagine that thing traveling through a metropolitan area?
First off, it takes up almost the same area as two average humans. Secondly it moves slower than the average human walks. Thirdly it's controlled by our mind. God forbid the hot chick from the MATRIX walked by and caught our attention. (assuming you're a man, or lesbian).
Have any of you lived in a "metropolitan" area before? If so than you can see that this thing scooting along a sidewalk filled with thousands of people, traveling like ants on the march, would be disastrous.
I could imagine some little punk getting his $150.00 Nike shoe ran over.
"Yo bitch"! "You ran over my mother-fuckin shoe, mother-fucker".
The End.

Oh hey, Metasynth, if you ever go on the AOL Instant Messenger, you might be interested in sparking up a conversation with SmarterChild. That bot is actually twenty times more interesting to talk with than you could ever be.

Just to add my two censt, I don't find you annoying at all, Metasynth, not really. Never did. Thought you might be good for a laugh at one point, but you always refused to dare match wits with me. So whatever, girlfriend.

Dean Kamen says:
quote:
"Any place people walk, you could use this," he said. "We think that most people driving their SUV (sport utility vehicle) are going to want to put a couple of these in the back" for when they stop.

But, how will they get to the back of the SUV. Lets invent a flip out conveyer belt so to travel to the rear of the SUV with ease.
Morons!

quote:
The Segway's price tag -- $8,000 to $10,000 for the first Human Transporters to go on sale early next year to large corporations -- may be a hurdle, Burns said.

This reminds me of the early 80’s when the government spent tens of thousands on fax machines, then threw them in the closet.

If you have a SUV (not recommended), why do you even need a damn scooter? What the fuck is wrong with walking?

Is there some horrid mutant strain of Athlete's Foot going around, robbing people of their natural need to locomote? Isn't this damn invention supposed to replace the fucking SUVs?

Oh, my head hurts.
