What can you tell me about the Peterson Projection map. I've been thinking about replacing my world map with a Peterson map, but I've heard that you gain size accuracy yet lose precise land shapes. Maybe I need to have both, but it pisses me off to have a map that shows that Greenland is the same or similar size as Africa.

A buddy of mine gave me an excellent site to view different projections here. It should explain about how each projection displays the world, and how some types preserve certain features while others distort. You have to view it in Netscape (the applet won't work in IE).

Also there's a link here that tries to distinguish between Peterson and Mercator. I haven't heard of Peterson projection before. We mostly stick to Mercator at our school.
